Coming from the top section of the hindquarter of the cow, the rump is typically a little firmer compared to the classic steak cuts like fillet or ribeye but packs an abundance of succulent flavours. Succulent and Multi-Use Rump Steaks & Rump Caps (Picanha) From Tom Hixson

These various cuts are a fantastically diverse group providing different pieces of quality meat for a variety of needs. From BBQs, to stews, to steaks to casseroles, these cuts can cover it.

A lot of the rump cuts are extremely popular in South America and, as such, we have focussed on ensuring we have a great range of South American and Brazilian beef products here at Tom Hixson online butchers. We have several rump beef cuts available such as the Uruguyan picanha beef cut, rumptail and rump heart which pack fabulous flavours and are expertly prepared for your dining experience.

The Brazilian Picanha steak is the star of the South American meat scene. Also known in English as the rump cap this cut of beef is traditionally cooked based on the South American style of grill cooking to create a churrasco picanha and has a special place in all meat lover's hearts (ideal as BBQ meat like Brisket).

Also not to be missed is the Argentine beef rump heart, which brings to the table all the meat craftsmanship, skill and taste associated with Argentinian meat.

Outside of South America we have a variety of Australian beef rump steaks giving you a grass-fed and a grain-fed variety; the grain-fed will give you slightly more fat marbling and as such a different element of flavour, whilst the grass-fed will boast a healthier, leaner steak with a slightly different element to it. Which one will you prefer? We have a number of Picanha recipes for all occasions. The rump cap cut themselves are ideal for slow cooking methods like pot roasting to bring out their flavouring. Alternatively, you can cut them into steaks and enjoy them grilled or fried. The picanha beef cut, as stated above is best enjoyed on a BBQ; the way it is prepared provides a blanket of fat which releases wonderful flavours and creates a juicy piece of meat- ideally it will be prepared as a whole piece before being cut into steaks. The Uruguayan rumptail is an affordable rump steak cut that can be utilised in a similar manner as they to ejoy a blanket of fat covering so it can also be a great BBQ meat.
