Healthy Grilled steak and Peppercorn sauce

  • 4 tsp mustard powder
  • 8 fillet steaks
  • Low calorie cooking spray
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 300g chicken stock
  • 1 tbsp crushed black peppercorns
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 200g fat-free natural fromage frais


  1. Firstly sprinkle the mustard powder over the steaks and rub onto the surface.
  2. Secondly spray the steaks with low calorie cooking spray then cover them and set to the side.
  3. To make the sauce, first chop the onion and crush the garlic.
  4. Then place in a pan with the stock and bring to the boil.
  5. After it has boiled reduce the heat and add the peppercorns and Worcestershire sauce then allow  simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the sauce is reduced and slightly thickened.
  6.  Remove the sauce from the heat and stir in the fromage frais making sure the sauce is warm till serving but do not boil.
  7. Now to cook the steaks, place them on a hot griddle pan sprayed with low calorie cooking spray and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side.
  8. Serve the steak with the peppercorn sauce and lots of steamed vegetables.
