Tom Hixson of Smithfield is among the Great Taste winners of 2021

Tom Hixson of Smithfield has been awarded a 3-star rating by Great Taste; an Awards Association that is renowned for being among the most reputable and trusted in the industry - featuring 5,383 products worldwide. The Miguel Vergara Aberdeen Angus - Bone-In - Ribeye Steak has been granted the honour of wearing Great Taste’s prestigious black and gold logo; a stamp of excellence, recognised by retailers and consumers - alike. Tom Hixson of Smithfield follows a strict list of procedures; striving each day; to breed, nurture and attain - quality meat.

The Miguel Vergara herd are bred in the tranquil meadows of Salamanca and the mountains of Leon, Spain; which provides the ideal environment for the growth; sustenance and nourishment of the herd. In order to maximise colour, juiciness and intra-muscular fat associated with quality meat; the herding process adheres to high-standard animal welfare procedures - providing comfortable conditions for the herd.


The Aberdeen Angus are a rare breed known for producing unique flavours and textures; often described as herbaceous and somewhat floral. We endeavour to enhance these flavours by means of a carefully curated and balanced diet that is adjusted to the needs of each phase of growth. This diet includes a 300-day, grain-fed regime that mixes top-quality cereals, legumes, soybeans, oils and straw. In the end stages, our meat is dry-aged for 21 days with the objective of producing intense flavour, ideal for refined palates.
